Mission Statement – As ministers of the
Church on the Cape
our mission is to be aware of the needs of the parish and the wider
community and to serve those who are homebound, hospitalized and in
nursing homes in a manner that shares the love of Christ through
acceptance and support and meets the individual in the moment.
To ensure that this mission remains
spirit filled and timely, we continue to meet eight times a year to pray
together, experience enriching talks and discern the needs of our church
family and community. This year we have gained practical knowledge from
Monique Spina who addressed the skill of Being an Effective Listener and
Judy Worthen, who spoke about the legal issues of Caregiving and our
available Community Services. Debbie Parsons and Debbi Lord gave a
participatory workshop on Meeting the Needs of the Homebound.
An exercise related to Dealing with Losses was used
to focus on this very real part of our lives. In
October, Kennebunkport Chief of Police, Joe Bruni, talked about Domestic
Abuse in our community. In the spring of 2006, he
will address Elder Abuse and Child Violence. In November,
Jean Moulton will share her experiences as an active
member of a Stephen
Ministry program. December will
again find us addressing Christmas cards for our Annual Christmas
Shower. This activity is shared by the entire church
family.
As part of discerning the needs of our
church family and community we continue to send cards, make phone calls,
offer transportation, deliver balloons for cheer, provide meals, deliver
Sunshine Baskets plus visit the homebound and those in nursing homes and
hospitals plus much more.
Active members this year consist of: Jane
Anderson, Lillian Bartlett, Christine Brooks, Gail Browning, Roy
Bruton, Beryl Docherty, Karen Dombrowski, Cynthia Doolittle, Carol Douglas, Harriet Eaton, David Emery, Judy
Emery, Louise Fairfield, Weedie Falls, Deb Guilmartin, Linda Hanna,
Lorraine Hutchins, Rebecca Lee, Debbi Lord, Dick Merriam,
Ruth Merriam, Jean Moulton,
Debbie Parsons, Beryl Samia, Jane Smith,
Nancy Treadwell, Elaine Triplett
and Elaine Ugolini plus all those in the congregation who offer their
support and love.
Also, this year, we welcomed Debbie
Parsons as a Co-Facilitator of the Ministry of Caring and Nancy
Treadwell, who is assisting with the emailing. We
are most grateful for their special gifts and their willingness to take
on these responsibilities.
