Caroling and Potluck Supper

December 19, 1999 - The sun had just set as a hardy band of carolers from our church walked the streets of Cape Porpoise, intent on bringing the musical message of the season - "Christ is coming!"

The temperature was hovering near freezing when our enlarged choir went door to door. They knocked, asked if the occupant would like to hear carols, and with a "yes" they began. This way they visited more than a dozen long-time church members who were unable to get out in the cold air.

Choir Director Keith McClelland, along with Pastor Jo Bennett, led this group of more than 25 in the pre-supper sing-a-long.

While the "street musicians" were spreading cheer throughout the community, others back at Atlantic Hall were organizing the food which would soon be served.

The potluck supper began around 5:30 with the arrival of the chilled but happy carolers. They had shared Christmas joy with many Cape Porpoise neighbors - a fulfilling experience for all.

We did not suffer from lack of food. There were tuna and haddock casseroles, lasagna and chicken salad, bread and rolls along with yummy desserts.

Our Pastor Emeritus, Sherwood Treadwell, made a valiant effort to convert many of us to his favorite drink - Moxie. Few things in life divide people more quickly than the taste of that drink.

Young and old enjoyed the afternoon and evening, including the youngest who had their own Barbie doll corner.

The food filled our stomachs and the Spirit filled our souls. What a grand way to usher in the last week in Advent.
