The Annual Church Conference at the Church on the Cape
by William Lord

(Nov 10, 2001) Nearly 40 people attended the Annual Church Conference on a gray and chilly Saturday afternoon. Inside, the spirit was warm and the faces were bright with smiles.

District Superintendent Don Rudalevige led the meeting as reports were given on the accomplishments of a year now near its end.

Tom Bradbury, our Lay Leader and Pastor Parish Relations Chair, spoke of the three policy statements the committee has been working on during the year: the church's Mission and Vision Statements and the Parish Profile. The profile, which represents to the Bishop and her Cabinet this church's vision of who we are and what we perceive to be our needs, will be included in the upcoming newsletter. That profile is an important document because it will be used by the Bishop to identify the person who will become our next pastor.

Bill Gardei, as our Interim Pastor, will leave us in July when our new pastor arrives. There were several tributes to 'Pastor Bill' for having created a miracle in Cape Porpoise...bringing out the best in each one of us. One parishioner was heard to say, "If he can do it here, there's hope for the world."

There were many other reports and discussions during the two and half hour meeting...Outreach, Caring, and Trustees, Lay and Music Ministries, Evening Group and Women's Guild to name a few. All reported positive growth and participation during 2001.

Alice Bruton, Ed Thompson and Jim Lennon assured us, with considerable enthusiasm, that financial and pledging numbers were a reflection of our spirit - just plain great!
