New England Annual Conference

Church on the Cape Figures Prominently in NE Annual Conference Video

One pastor in New Hampshire decribes
the serious challenges facing her congregation.

(June 14, 2008) The 2008 Session of the New England Annual Conference gathered at Gordon College for its yearly business meeting. Climate change and high energy prices were front and center as various congregations grappled with these issues.

The Climate Change Committee, established at last year's conference, presented a video that profiled the energy strategies of three churches: the First Methodist Church in Portsmouth, NH, the York-Ogunquit Methodist Church and the Church on the Cape in Cape Porpoise.

Preparation of the video involved three members of our congregation: Organist and Choir Director Beryl Samia, Christian Education Director Sue Stedman and William Lord. You'll hear Beryl's playing of "For the Beauty of the Earth" at the beginning and end of the presentation and Sue's creative proposal to "spread the light" throughout our congregation. William Lord produced and narrated the video for the conference.

Bishop Peter Weaver participated in the video detailing the challenges we all face as the result of a warming planet and rapidly rising fuel costs.
