2011
has been an
outstanding example of the work the foundation is undertaking on behalf of
our community.
April 2 - The New England
Brass Band, conducted by Stephen Bulla, performed its Spring Concert in Kennebunkport
as we partnered with South Church. Mr. Bulla
received his degree in
arranging and composition from Boston's Berklee College of Music, graduating
Magna Cum Laude. He has entered his third decade as Chief Arranger to The
President's Own U.S. Marine Band and White House Orchestra, where he has
been responsible for the production of ceremonial and entertainment music
for the administrations of Ronald Reagan through to the present First
Family.
June 17th
- A
packed sanctuary at The Church on the Cape was treated to a stunning
concert presented by nationally-known Keren Schweitzer and Jason
Lippmann. The petite Ms. Schweitzer, an award-winning performer,
teacher and dedicated arts educator, held the people spellbound with
her magic flute.
She has appeared with the Los
Angeles Philharmonic, played chamber music with its members, and is
currently an LA Philharmonic teaching artist. First Prize winner in
a National Flute Talk Competition, in Clarke’s “Zoom Tube” for solo
flute, Ms. Schweitzer literally “talked to and sang with” her
instrument, while playing simultaneously…the effect was
“otherworldly- spectacular”!
Mr. Lippmann, has frequently
played with numerous national symphony orchestras, and is currently
a member of the cello section of the Los Angeles Symphony Orchestra.
He has actively performed as a chamber musician, most recently on
the Philharmonic’s Chamber Music Society and the Green Umbrella
Series. He also performs at a number of music festivals.
Ms. Schweitzer and Mr.
Lippmann complimented each other brilliantly, raising Beethoven,
Lobos, Uebayashi to new heights. The music of flute extraordinaire
and the hauntingly beautiful cello made it a night to remember. A
sample of their performance is below.
July 24 -
Houston Children's Chorus directed by their founder, Stephen Roddy. They
have performed for former President and Mrs. George W. Bush, former
President and Mrs. George H. W. Bush, and former President Bill Clinton.
Some 70 children will fill our sanctuary with song. They regularly perform
with the Houston Symphony and the Houston Symphony Pops.
Here is their opening
