Gay 90's Night at Atlantic Hall - a 'standing-room-only' success
Beryl Samia had hoped for several folks to show up. We now know that "several" means 150 in Cape Porpoise. We enjoyed the solos, duets, the six-man 'quartet', the bubbly youth choir and the spunkiness of our Senior Choir.
Here's what some of those present had to say: "What an incredible church/village evening "gay 90s night was!
It so reminded me of wonderful times, when
growing up as a kid in Wayland MA, then a truck farming community only
20 miles west of Boston. Come town meeting and at least one other time
each year, the entire town would gather at our old Town Hall - mom's
would bring basket lunches for their families, younger women would bring
theirs unmarked for auction to the young men. A lot of us kids would
take our horses and give rides to the smaller ones, and then older folks
(parents) would have their meeting about whatever was important for
the day, following which we'd have a square dance, young and old alike.
Last Saturday's gay 90's night brought so
many of us together. . .one lady from visiting from Connecticut exulted
and asked when is it regularly scheduled this weekend, because she
wanted to be sure to not miss it next year!
Well done all!! What joyful experience. .
.there were soooo many smiling faces and singing voices, not only on
stage, but out there in the audience!!"

From a "performer's standpoint," the evening was fabulous!
We loved the music and the interaction
with the crowd. And it was largely due to the faithful and strong
direction of Beryl. Not only did she play masterfully, but she
created the entire program, drilled us (like a Drill Sergeant), and
pulled us up to the performance that took place. I loved it. In
fact, I felt as part of the audience myself, just experiencing it
unfold.

What an absolutely magical evening! The hours of preparation were very evident, and it was sheer delight to be the recipients of such fine musical entertainment. Joe Foster was clearly the perfect M.C. for the occasion. ( I especially enjoyed his joke about the dentures!) The variety of singers; the soloists and the couples who sang to each other put their whole selves into what they were doing. And as was obvious, we in the audience loved it. THANK YOU, Beryl. Thank you, choirs. Thank you, Clare. Thank you, Lois. You brought us real and infectious joy. Ruth Merriam
