Church Sends
Missionaries to Haiti to Work with PID
Congregation Donates
$20,010.01 for Haiti Relief through PID
The Church on the Cape has had a close
relationship with Partners in Development. Their president, Gale
Hull, has spoken to our congregation over the years. Twelve of our church
families support one or more children in Haiti and Guatemala through Partners in
Development. The severe earthquake on January 12th,
which killed more than 200,000 people and left 1,000,000
homeless, spoke to all of us about that nation's overwhelming needs.
Members of our church have
regularly traveled with Gale Hull, PID president, helping
in the construction of homes, a clinic and other buildings in
Haiti as well as other projects in Central America. In
Guatemala, we joined with Rotary of the Kennebunks in providing
a new roof for a school.
The April, 2010 trip saw a group from Cape Porpoise,
including the Pastor, Dick and Julie, head to Port-au-Prince to
join Gale at the clinic in Blanchard. The video below documents
that trip.
Earlier, the congregation had stepped forward with a large
grant. Lisa Lassey, the PID Development Officer, accepted the
donation on behalf of the organization. Below is video of that part of the service.
From the PID website:
Partners in
Development, Inc. (PID) strives to help the extreme poor
attain independence and whole life improvement. PID combines
a variety of programs to achieve community transformation in
places where hope is often lost in the cycle of poverty.
Through child sponsorships, small business loans, housing
opportunities and medical care we aim to transform
communities so they can be self-sufficient. Our work is
currently focused in the neediest sections of the Caribbean
and Central America.
Gale Hull travels back and forth with a team of volunteers caring for
the sick and injured and feeding the survivors.
We can't all be on the ground lending caring assistance to
the victims, but our dollars - some $20,010.01- are now on the way
to help those in need. A group from our church will be
traveling to Haiti in mid-April.
