Prelude Concert 2003 (December 5, 2003) The church was filled and our hearts were open to the spirit of Christmas. Guest organist Ray Cornils answered the call by filling us to overflowing with warm, bright seasonal music. Mr. Cornils is the Municipal Organist for the City of Portland, a post that he has held since 1990. He also serves First Parish Church, UCC in Brunswick, Maine as Music Director where he has built an extensive music program of five vocal and two handbell choirs. In addition, he is a member of the music faculties of the University of Southern Maine, Bowdoin College and the Portland Conservatory of Music, where he teaches organ, harpsichord and related classes.
It was a wonderful way to begin this year's Christmas Season. Our thanks to Ray for graciously offering such wonderful talent to our community. This was the seventh in our series of organ concerts. It was the vision of Keith McClelland, our former organist and choir director, that our church become a center for excellence in musical performance. Thus, we have established the Keith McClelland Memorial Concert Fund. These concerts are supported through generous individual gifts, the purchase of recordings of these concerts, and free-will donations at the door.
