The Fourth of July is Celebrated with American Music

(July 4, 2002) Bill McCullough, long-time friend our church and substitute organist, put our pipe organ through its paces on Independence Day by featuring in his recital American composers.

Bill, a graduate of the Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey, and an organ student at the New England Conservatory in Boston, lit up the musical sky with selections by Charles Wesley, Stephen Foster and Samuel Ward among others. Bill's daughter, Mrs. Marcie Yager, sang two solos.

Stately March

Cyrus S. Mallard

Variations on "America"

Charles Wesley

The House I Live In
   Mrs. Marcie Yager, Soprano
Allen and Robinson

Holding a paint palette, Bill demonstrated to the audience the various 'colors' of the organ. The sound combinations appeared to be endless, a tribute to the quality of both the organist and the instrument.

This was the third in our series of organ concerts. It was the vision of Keith McClelland, our former organist and choir director, that our church become a center for excellence in musical performance. Thus, we have established the Keith McClelland Memorial Concert Fund. These concerts are supported through generous individual gifts, the purchase of recordings of these concerts, and free-will donations at the door. This concert will be available on CD in the near future.

Here is a portion of the concluding work...America!
