The
Church on the Cape hosted an 'electric' summer concert, featuring Mark
Thallander, organis, and his accompanist, Jeremy McElroy. They were
joined by the combined choirs of the Church on the Cape and the First
Congregational Church of Kennebunkport.
Mark is probably best known for his 18-year
distinguished musical ministry at The Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove,
California, where he became Assistant Music Director and Organist.
Mark’s solo performances and duet programs have
taken him to some of the largest pipe organs in the world, including the
The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, Los Angeles; Central Union
Church, Honolulu; Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, Ft. Lauderdale; St.
Luke’s Cathedral, Portland, Maine; and St. Patrick’s Cathedral, New York
City...and now the Church on the Cape in Cape Porpoise.
Two years
ago, Mark Thallander was involved in a serious accident on the Maine
Turnpike, which resulted in the loss of an arm. But his faith overcame
what could have been a tragic end to a brilliant career. Mark is now
playing again and and we witnessed the results of his talent,
determination and faith in God. Sample his opening selection:

He was
accompanied by pianist Jeremy McElroy who also joined him on the organ
bench to perform several duets.
The
concert was funded by the Keith McClelland Memorial Concert Fund through
the generous support of visitors and members of the congregations.
