Goat Island Picnic
by Dick Merriam (story and photos)

(Sunday, August 25, 2002)  When asked about the prospects of a gray and somewhat threatening day, Karen Dombrowski gave a thumbs-up, and how glad we were.  Not only was the weather great, but the whole afternoon was exhilarating!  The occasion was the 2nd Annual Church Picnic at Goat Island.

Scott Dombrowski, and John Bain skillfully and patiently ferried the approximately 30 attendees to the island.  By the time Pastor Ruth and her family arrived, everyone was quite hungry and thoroughly ready for the “blessing.”

Although the island is small there was plenty to explore.  This included a climb up the lighthouse, with Sherwood as an early and victorious summiter, a tour of the house, and walks along the shore around the island.  None of the children said, “I’m bored.”

For those of you who have never been on the island, the location gives an incredible view of the port, and the harbor islands.  It was a day to marvel.

On the return, Julie had her first driving lesson.  Now, instead of a dog, she wants a boat!
