Firemen and Mayor
Respond to Sunday School
Angels
(November
11, 2001) On the Sunday following the tragic attack on the World Trade
Center and the Pentagon, the Sunday School, under the direction of Cynthia
Domine, created "Love Angels" out of paper doilies and wrapping paper
and sent them to the fire and police men and women who were involved
in the massive rescue operations.
Written on the cards was this message:
Thank you for
your help and sacrifice.
May this angel
remind you that God is always with you, especially in difficult times.
With love..the
kids from the Church on the Cape, Cape Porpoise, Maine.
This past week two letters arrived from New York City.
One of the letters is from a battalion that fought the fires at the
World Trade Center. It reads:
Dear
Students: Some people say firefighters are just big kids doing a grown-up's
job. They could be right, and just as kids love to laugh and smile,
so do firefighters.
In these hard
days at the firehouse, when we are able to laugh or smile, it helps
to lift away some of our feeling of sorrow. We needed to find something
to help us smile again. You were able to help us!
As we sat around
the kitchen table reading all your letters and looking at your pictures,
we were all able to find a letter or a picture that made us smile
and gave us a sense of comfort. Thanks!!
Thank you for
recognizing the work we do, and for all your prayers, and good wishes.
We have enclosed
a picture of the members of Engine 3, Ladder 12, Battalion 7 working
at our firehouse.
Pray for our
missing brothers: Chief Palmer, Fr. Belson, Lt Petti, Fr. Juarbe,
Fr. Mullan
Sincerely,
your friends...The Firefighters of Engine 3, Ladder 12, Battalion
7
A second letter was received from the Office of the Mayor
of New York City, Rudolph Giuliani, thanking our children, on behalf
of the people of New York City, for their prayers and support.
These messages from New York demonstrated once again how
connected we are as a people of faith.
