Our Stained Glass Windows

Our Stained Glass Windows

Daylight at the Church on the Cape is filtered through
a glorious kaleidoscope of stained glass.

The window on the left depicts Jesus being questioned in the Temple. It was given by the Nunan family in 1908.

The window on the right depicts Jesus teaching children in a garden. It was given in 1909 by the Ladies Circle.

The following comments refer to another less ornate window given by the Ladies Circle to the church in 1908 and another Nunan window not shown here:

According to the minutes of the Ladies Aid Society (1904-1928), it cost $125. "Farely's beautiful windows," the minutes read, "have been presented to the Cape Porpoise M. E. Church, and are now being constructed in Portland. The dedication is to take place soon." "Farely" was C. H. Farley who designed and constructed these early windows.

In March of 1909, Pastor William Wood spoke in his report to the Fourth Quarterly Conference at Kennebunkport and Cape Porpoise that "I had the pleasure of ordering two more beautiful windows for the Church at the Cape, and expect to have them in before Conference...one is presented by the Nunan family and the other by the Ladies' Circle."
