October, 2026 Sunday School News
Sunday School is in full swing. Thanks to the enthusiastic Sunday School teachers, Pastor Greg’s love of the children, and your interest in the children, they are happy to come to church.
Photos included within this article: We love to see baby Joey sleeping comfortably in Mommy Elizabeth’s arms. Sophie shares a prayer she created with Pastor Greg. Carol and Sophie were delighted to discover they were twins. Jake and Isabella bring their food items to the COS basket. How special to see Winston and Remy participate in Communion with their parents. Pastor Greg and Diana’s Oreo snack for coffee hour was a big hit with all, especially with Remy. The children love story time with Pastor Greg. The Sophie, Jake, Isabella and Ben are enthusiastically listening to the story of The Wedding Feast.
One Sunday the children made little boxes filled it with words of things they were grateful for. Hazel is grateful for her church, God and Jesus, and her family. Remy is grateful for his mom and dad, his family, the ocean, God and Jesus, his dog, and Mother Nature. Winston is grateful for his family. Isabella is grateful for Mom, Dad, Jacob, and Winston. Jake is grateful for God, Mom, toys, and food. It is a blessing to have these children in church, and wonderful to learn more about them.
One Sunday the children heard the parable of the wedding feast. The children enjoyed sharing their experiences with parties. They talked about going to parties, giving them, and what to do to get ready; pick a place, order food, invite people. It was particularly fun that this lesson fell on Pastor Greg’s special party. The children heard about a king who was having a big party for his son. The king had his servants invite all the important people to this party. Sadly, the important people did not want to come to the party, “I’m way too busy” was the response from all. The king was very angry and told the servants to invite all the unimportant people. All the unimportant people came, the baker, the builder, the grape picker, and so on. These people had a great time at the king’s party.
The children were then asked, ‘what is the message Jesus wants us to understand about this parable?’ Ben answered, “when you invite people to a party, some say yes and some say no!” Ben was on the right track.
The discussion went on to explain that this is just like when God invites us to His party – which means to follow him, and be a loving a kind person. Sometimes we say yes and sometimes we say no. We feel God’s love in our hearts, but we still might be a little bit mean to a sibling. This is saying no to God’s party. Everyone understood that! Examples of going to God’s party were shared: being kind to people, helping Mom, and never laughing when someone is hurt…. Parables are tricky and the children are starting to grasp the idea that behind each parable is an important message. God bless our children.
